UBC Entrance Scholarships for international students
The university of British Columbia(UBC) is an award winning institution where you can study in Canada. The UBC offer scholarships to qualified students to pursue their undergraduate and masters programs. If you are awarded any of the UBC scholarships, you become part of a network of young and engaged leaders who enhance UBC through their diverse perspectives, participation, and ingenuity.

UBC provides a variety of possibilities both inside and outside the classroom, starting from cooperatives and research for undergraduates in the field of undergraduate research to club activities as well as study abroad to help you complete your degree and contribute to the vibrant community.

Merit-based awards
When you are offered an invitation to join UBC, and you’re accepted, you’ll automatically be evaluated for these awards based on merit. The criteria for consideration are based on your accomplishments in academics and extracurricular activities.
International Major Entrance UBC Scholarships
International Major Entrance Scholarships (IMES) are awarded to outstanding international students enrolled in UBC’s undergrad programs. Students are granted their IMES as they begin their initial year of study at UBC, and the awards can be renewed for up to three more years of study. The amount and quantity of these awards yearly differ based on available funding.
Eligibility
To be eligible for IMES To be considered for IMES, you must:
- You are new to UBC, starting straight after secondary school.
- You must be an international student attending UBC with Canadian student permission (student visa). (Changes in your nationality status can impact your eligibility for IMES.)
- Show exceptional academic accomplishment and potential intellectually in addition to outstanding community and extracurricular involvement.
- You cannot be nominated to receive a need-and-merit-based International Scholars award.
- Apply to UBC by January 15.

How do I apply
If you have applied to UBC on or before January 15 and you are accepted, you will be automatically eligible to be a candidate for IMES.
Scholarship status
You’ll be assessed for this scholarship soon after receiving acceptance into UBC. The scholarship selection process takes place from mid-March to the close of April every year.
Outstanding International Student Award
The Outstanding International Student (OIS) Award is a single merit-based scholarship for entrance to eligible students once they receive an invitation to UBC. The students selected for this award have demonstrated academic excellence and active involvement in the world beyond the classroom.
Eligibility
To be eligible as a candidate for the OIS Award, you must:
- You are new to UBC and enrolled straight at the end of secondary school or post-secondary (university or college).
- You must be an international student at UBC using Canadian Study permission (student visa). (Changes in your nationality status can impact your eligibility for scholarships.)
- Show outstanding academic performance and substantial involvement in extracurricular activities.
- Do not be eligible for a merit-based, need-based International Scholars award.
- Apply to UBC by January 15.
How do you apply
If you submit your application to UBC before January 15, you will automatically be eligible as a candidate for the OIS Award.
