Scholarships
Obtain a Scholarship for a Master’s Degree in Data Science at the University of Alberta as an International Student.
Canada is home to many renowned and prestigious universities and the University of Alberta, Edmonton, is only one of such institutions. This university offers exceptional international students generous scholarships for their pursuit of a Master’s degree in Data Science through the Department of Computing Science.
Generally, the University of Alberta provides a limited number of excellent international graduate students with partial tuition fee waivers which cover about 50% – 75% of tuition costs. These scholarships are granted to international applicants in any graduate program, M.Sc. in Data Science, included. Interested students are not required to submit a separate application as the already admitted ones who possess a minimum of 3.5 CGPA will be automatically considered.
These scholarships are merit-based and entirely very competitive. A lot of factors come into play such as research experience, reference letters, statements of interest, awards, and publications. All of these factors, and more, are being considered and evaluated. Applicants who become successful scholarship recipients are notified along with an offer of admission.
It is important to note that this scholarship only covers about 50% – 75% of tuition fees. Other incurred costs in the course of the program such as student fees, health insurance, accommodation, books, etc., must be taken care of by the students and their families. This, however, does not invalidate the importance of the scholarship award as a 50% – 75% tuition fee waiver definitely makes an expensive Master’s degree program considerably affordable.
In addition to the tuition fee waivers, the University of Alberta also makes available over $30 million CAD worth of scholarships, every year, specifically for graduate studies. International students pursuing a Master of Science in Data Science program are therefore advised to submit applications for these scholarships. Some of these prestigious scholarships include Tri-Council grants (NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR), Albert Innovates Technology Futures scholarships, Mitacs Globalink Research Awards, etc.
Furthermore, the Department of Computing Science also grants Teaching and Research Assistantship positions to both Canadian and international students. These positions come with a salary as well as a tuition waiver. It must be stated that exceptional applicants have a high chances of obtaining more than one funding offer.
Finally, the University of Alberta offers generous scholarships to international students which avail international students the opportunity to obtain an education from a top-ranked university.
