The University of Hawai‘i – West O‘ahu (UHWO) invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of Cybersecurity (Position #0076363). This is a 9-month, tenure-track appointment located in the beautiful city of Kapolei, Hawaii.
As a faculty member in the Applied Science and Cybersecurity programs, you will play a vital role in shaping the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. You’ll teach advanced courses, mentor students, and contribute to innovative research in areas critical to the future of digital security.
🧭 Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Information Security & Assurance.
- Develop and update courses on cutting-edge topics such as:
- Digital Forensics
- Network & System Security
- Cyber Operations
- IT Project Management
- Management of Information Security
- Software System Security
- Engage in academic advising and mentorship of practicum students.
- Deliver both in-person and online instruction through distance education platforms.
- Conduct applied research or scholarly work in cybersecurity.
- Collaborate with industry leaders to enhance program quality and student employability.
- Participate actively in faculty governance and institutional service.
🎓 Minimum Qualifications
For Assistant Professor:
- Earned doctorate in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related field (ABD candidates considered if completed by appointment date).
- Five (5) years of full-time professional experience in cybersecurity, computer science, or IT within a public or private organization.
- Evidence of quality teaching experience at the college level in cybersecurity or related areas.
- Demonstrated research potential in cybersecurity, information security, or applied computing fields.
For Associate Professor:
- Meet all Assistant Professor requirements.
- At least five years of college/university teaching at the rank of Assistant Professor.
- Proven record of publications in peer-reviewed journals related to cybersecurity or information assurance.
💡 Desirable Qualifications
- Expertise in Cybersecurity, Information Security, or Cyber Operations.
- Proficiency with online and hybrid instruction technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to teach and collaborate in a multicultural academic environment.
- Research specialization in areas such as:
- Trustworthy Systems
- Security and Privacy
- Embedded System Security
- Computer Forensics
- Threat Visualization
