Jobs & Career
How I got my first job in Saudi Arabia. Part B.
I was gaining valuable experience as a Well-test Data Engineer in Nigeria. Over time, I became very skilled in my role and even trained others who also excelled. One colleague noted that I had achieved a lot already in Nigeria and it was time to seek new challenges abroad. I couldn’t argue with that assessment – I was ready for what was next.
My first step was focusing on seeking overseas opportunities, as I had no network or knowledge in that area. I spent quality time renovating my CV to better market my capabilities.
After intensive online research spanning months, I identified some job sites where I could develop my professional profile actively. I invested effort into building detailed profiles showcasing my background. While doing so, I still had doubts about whether it would yield results. But I persevered in faith.
Encouragingly, I received an email about two months later regarding a Well-test Data Engineer role with one of their clients in Saudi Arabia. The salary range seemed attractive. Though cautiously optimistic given my initial distrust, I submitted my interest at the highest rate offered.
To my pleasant surprise, I was requested for an interview the next day. Leveraging my teaching style during interviews, it went exceedingly well. This progressed to an offer letter with favorable terms. Understandably still uncertain, I accepted in hope.
After a few weeks, I was invited to complete necessary processes like biometrics and medicals in Abuja, Nigeria which I managed amidst work commitments. Exactly two weeks later, my work visa arrived – it was happening! I updated my new company and my ticket was immediately booked for relocation to Saudi Arabia. Each development happened swiftly, confirming it was no dream.
I traveled safely via Port Harcourt, Lagos, Qatar to Saudi, with all expenses covered. The immigration clearance sealed my excitement of embarking on this new phase abroad. I shared the good news with my wife upon arrival – my journey to Saudi Arabia had begun successfully!
