Fully Funded Postdoctoral Fellowship in Particle Physics at UBC and TRIUMF – Salary $65,000–$76,000
Are you a recent Ph.D. graduate in particle physics looking to take your research career to the next level? The University of British Columbia (UBC) Department of Physics and Astronomy, in collaboration with TRIUMF, Canada’s national particle accelerator center, is now accepting applications for a prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowship with the Rare Decay Group.
This exciting opportunity allows you to contribute to groundbreaking research with the PSI PIONEER experiments, advancing the frontier of pion decay studies and exotic particle searches.
About the PIONEER Project
The PIONEER experiment (see pioneer.triumf.ca) is designed to measure the pion branching ratio at unprecedented precision. It builds on the success of earlier experiments at TRIUMF (PIENU) and PSI (PEN) while utilizing state-of-the-art technologies, including noble liquid calorimetry and Low Gain Avalanche Detectors (LGADs).
Key Responsibilities
As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will play a central role in advancing experimental particle physics by:
- Conducting data collection and contributing to detector operations at PSI (Switzerland).
- Supporting detector and experiment development at TRIUMF in Vancouver.
- Performing simulations, data analysis, and electronics R&D.
- Publishing research results in top peer-reviewed journals and presenting at leading conferences.
- Supervising and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
Required Skills and Expertise
Applicants should bring strong research experience and technical skills, including:
- Expertise in data analysis and simulation tools.
- Proficiency in C++, ROOT, Geant4, and an interest in machine learning applications.
- Knowledge of silicon detectors, liquid noble gas detectors, and electronics.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
- Flexibility to travel to Switzerland for collaborative work.
Minimum Qualifications
- A recent Ph.D. (within the last 5 years) in particle physics, or near completion.
Compensation and Benefits
This grant-funded postdoctoral position offers:
- Salary: CAD $65,000 – $76,000 annually.
- Comprehensive benefits package, including dental, extended health, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, and wellness benefits.
- Excellent pension plan and employee assistance programs.
- Generous paid leave, including maternity/paternity leave top-ups.
- Opportunity to work at a world-class research facility with cutting-edge experimental infrastructure.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should prepare the following:
- Cover letter
- Statement of research interests
- Detailed CV with publication list
- Three letters of reference (to be sent directly by referees)
All documents must be submitted via email to recruiting@triumf.ca with JR101728 in the subject line.
Application Deadline: September 30, 2025
