Erasmus Scholarships Nigeria 2024
The Erasmus+ programme is the European Union’s flagship international education, training, youth and sports programme. One of its core components is the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees (EMJMD), which provides scholarships to Nigerian students to pursue a highly integrated joint or double/multiple degree at the master’s level in Europe. If you’re looking to study abroad in Europe for your postgraduate degree, here’s what you need to know about applying for an Erasmus scholarship in Nigeria for 2024.
Eligibility
You must be a Nigerian citizen
Hold a first-degree equivalent to a good UK second-class honours degree
Demonstrate excellent academic abilities
Prove proficiency in the language of instruction (if different from your first language)
Not a resident nor have carried out your main activity (studies, work etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in Europe
Scholarship Coverage
Erasmus scholarships cover the full cost of participation, including travel allowance, tuition fees, monthly living allowance and supplementary costs like visa processing fees. The exact amount varies depending on the host country but is generally sufficient to cover all study and living expenses for the full duration of the master’s program (12-24 months).
Application Process
Applications for Erasmus scholarships open in January-February annually on the Erasmus+ website. Check participating universities and programs, choose up to three that interest you, and apply directly providing required documents like a CV, statement of purpose, language certificates etc. by set deadlines typically in March. Selection is done centrally by evaluation committees based on merit and documents submitted.
Selection Criteria
Key factors considered include academic excellence, study/research proposal, motivation, and the potential impact of the study on career and relationship to the chosen host country. Priority is given to candidates with no other means of funding their studies and those from underrepresented groups/countries. Selected candidates are notified by July for programmes starting the following academic year.
