Research Focus

The project, titled:
“Towards Absolute Sustainability Descriptors for Materials Design in Energy and Environmental Applications”

This research addresses one of the most urgent challenges of our time—sustainable materials development. The project aims to:

  • Develop absolute sustainability descriptors for materials design.
  • Integrate environmental and human well-being metrics into materials selection.
  • Apply computational tools for heterogeneous catalysis, crucial in clean energy production and pollution control.
  • Identify material substitution candidates that balance efficiency, performance, and sustainability.

Supervised by Dr. Karthik Akkiraju, the project combines expertise from materials engineering, industrial ecology, and computational social science, providing a truly trans-disciplinary research environment.


Candidate Profile

The fully funded Master’s scholarship is open to highly motivated students with backgrounds in:

  • Materials Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Industrial Ecology
  • Computational Social Science
  • Environmental Engineering or related fields

Ideal candidates should demonstrate:

✔️ Strong foundation in engineering or a related discipline
✔️ Interest in sustainability and environmental impact assessment
