The University of Colorado Boulder is inviting applications for a strategic leadership role within its Office of Information Technology (OIT). This full-time position, Assistant Director for Research and Faculty Systems, plays a key role in shaping how faculty data, research services, and digital academic workflows are supported across campus.

This is a high-impact IT management role that involves leading enterprise systems, collaborating with academic and research administrations, and guiding a team of program managers and technical specialists.

Role Overview

The Assistant Director for Research and Faculty Systems provides leadership for three major IT program areas:

  1. Business Development & Content Services
    Supports campus operations through secure document workflows and digital automation tools (e.g., OnBase, DocuSign).
  2. Faculty Information Systems (FIS)
    Oversees systems that manage faculty data including appointments, reviews, achievements, and research activity reporting.
  3. Electronic Research Administration (eRA) IT Program Management
    Ensures efficient, compliant systems for research proposal and award management.

This role focuses on strategy, program oversight, system performance, staff development, and collaborative service delivery across campus.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Shape long-term technology strategy supporting research and faculty administration.
  • Represent OIT in committees, governance groups, and cross-campus initiatives.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend enhancements.

Program & Service Oversight

  • Ensure reliable delivery of enterprise systems.
  • Manage budgets, resources, and vendor relationships.
  • Oversee lifecycle transitions — including the move from on-prem FIS to an enterprise SaaS platform.

Team Leadership

  • Directly supervise and mentor program managers and technical staff.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive workplace culture.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid schedule: Some on-campus and remote work each week.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible IT experience
  • At least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Experience managing enterprise-level platforms in complex organizations

Preferred Experience

  • Higher education or public sector environment
  • Experience with OnBase, DocuSign, faculty lifecycle systems, or research administration platforms
  • Knowledge of ITSM, project management, and organizational change models
