As a Software Asset Manager, you’ll lead CU Boulder’s Software Asset Management (SAM) Program within the broader IT Asset Management (ITAM) function. Your mission is to optimize how the university manages software licenses, financials, contracts, and compliance.

💼 Key Responsibilities

As CU Boulder’s Software Asset Manager, your major responsibilities will include:

1. Software Licensing, Distribution, and Compliance

  • Oversee campus-wide software licensing and compliance.
  • Coordinate internal and vendor software audits.
  • Maintain an updated inventory of all OIT-managed software.
  • Curate and manage the University Software Catalog for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Supervise software distribution, access rights, and internal software sales.

2. Program Development & Process Improvement

  • Lead initiatives to enhance the Software Asset Management Program.
  • Develop campus-wide software standards and policies.
  • Implement and manage enterprise SAM tools (e.g., ServiceNow, Flexera, or Snow).
  • Support strategic IT projects and service managers with data insights.

3. Vendor and Contract Management

  • Negotiate and renew campus software contracts.
  • Serve as the primary contact for software vendors and publishers.
  • Collaborate with procurement and legal teams on statements of work (SOWs) and licensing terms.
  • Ensure compliance with software use rights and financial processes.

4. Operational Support

  • Manage advanced technical support cases related to software assets.
  • Lead incident responses for software systems.
  • Provide backup support to licensing and IT asset management teams.

💡 Preferred Skills and Experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in Software Asset Management.
  • Proficiency with SAM tools like ServiceNow, Flexera, Ivanti, or Snow License Manager.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.
  • Certification in SAM, ITIL, or Asset Management (or willingness to obtain within one year).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Vendor management or supply chain experience.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, or IBM licensing.
  • Experience in higher education IT environments.
  • Knowledge of ITIL principles and financial management processes.
