Lumenβs AI/ML Cybersecurity Internship is a 10-week, fully remote experience designed for students passionate about artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cybersecurity.
Interns work directly with experts in the Black Lotus Security Group, contributing to the protection of cutting-edge AI systems while gaining real-world experience at the intersection of cyber defense, AI, and digital innovation.

- Work Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week)
- Location: 100% Remote (U.S. only)

π§ Role Overview: AI/ML Cybersecurity Intern
As a Cybersecurity Intern, youβll collaborate with senior analysts and researchers to identify, test, and mitigate AI security threats.
Youβll dive deep into AI adversarial attacks, model poisoning, data leakage, and prompt injection vulnerabilities while contributing to defensive countermeasures that shape the next generation of secure AI systems.
βοΈ Key Responsibilities
- Research and test AI/ML security threats (adversarial attacks, model poisoning, prompt injection, etc.).
- Develop and document methodologies for AI red teaming and secure lifecycle practices.
- Analyze datasets and model outputs to detect integrity and confidentiality risks.
- Maintain test environments and datasets for ongoing AI adversarial testing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional cybersecurity teams and present technical findings.
- Participate in discussions about responsible AI, fairness, and ethical testing.
π― Preferred Qualifications
Education:
- Enrolled in a 4-year accredited U.S. college or university.
- Rising senior (graduating between August 2026 β May 2028).
- Preferred majors: Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Security, or Data Analytics.
Technical Skills:
- Basic knowledge of machine learning, data analytics, and AI fundamentals.
- Proficiency in Python, R, or Julia for ML experimentation.
- Familiarity with TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, or similar frameworks.
- Exposure to cybersecurity tools like Nmap, Wireshark, or Metasploit.
- Experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and Git.
AI Security Knowledge:
- Interest in adversarial AI, model poisoning, prompt injection, and LLM vulnerabilities.
- Awareness of NIST AI RMF and Google SAIF frameworks.
- Understanding of generative AI and agentic AI architectures.
Soft Skills:
- Strong research curiosity and analytical mindset.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Awareness of AI ethics and data privacy in research.
