Why This Internship Is Worth Your Time
If you’re passionate about wildlife conservation and want hands-on field experience, the Rhino Research Internship is an opportunity you can’t miss. Hosted by WildComm Research Stations, this internship places you on a private reserve in South Africa that is home to two of Africa’s “Big Five,” a rich diversity of birdlife, and varied ecosystems.
You’ll work directly with conservation professionals, hone your data‐collection skills, and contribute meaningfully to rhino behaviour research — all while living on site in a unique ecological setting.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an intern, your duties will include:
- Collaborating with field rangers and research staff
- Monitoring rhino behaviour through observation and data logging
- Collecting and analysing data on social interactions, movement patterns, and habitat use
You’ll gain critical experience in field ecology, species behaviour studies, and conservation strategies that can be leveraged for future roles in wildlife research.

- Are responsible, motivated, and deeply interested in conservation
- Work well independently and in teams
- Are comfortable spending long hours outdoors in varied weather
- Possess a basic level of fitness (most fieldwork is done on foot)
Although some physical effort is required, the role is designed to help you grow into the demands of the field.
