JOB SECURITY

My friend Daniel lost his precious oil and gas job during the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. The backup savings he had, little by little reduced to zero. His frustration level increased by the day as he had his immediate and extended family to support him. Life hit him extremely hard.

We worked tirelessly to secure another job for Daniel. He was practically on job sites 24 hours a day. I provided my maximum support during his difficult time. Eventually last year, he called me with the happy news that he received multiple job offers from Saudi Arabia. This was one of the happiest moments of his life.

I guided Daniel and we chose one of the three offers. He completed all the paperwork and biometrics tests before traveling to start work. He also shared some work pictures with me since I enjoy photos. However, two months later he messaged that he received a termination letter from HR. I immediately called him to ask what happened. He shared that his Pakistani supervisor did not like him and they had issues since day one. His department was dominated by Pakistanis who falsely reported him to management leading to his exit.

Daniel also told me that Pakistanis dominate his department, and how they have been given false reports about him to the management which led to his existing letter. I felt terrible for him and asked why he didn’t share the problems earlier.

I told Daniel the priority now was moving forward. I asked him how many days he had before his flight home, he said 4 days. I advised him to immediately contact one of his offers and tell him you are already in Saudi Arabia, so they wouldn’t need to sponsor his visa again. He was still interested in working if they had an opening.

The next day Daniel called to say everything worked as advised – the new company accepted him and canceled his return flight. I then gave Daniel the advice planned which included learning from losses, working hard as the key to job security, and being smart in addition to hard work.

He surely needed this advice now as he moved forward in his career after facing such difficulties. Hard work, gaining lessons from failures, and being smart are essential for strong job security.

-When we lose, ensure you do not lose the lessons.

-We left home to feed home.

-Hard work is key to job security. Be the employee who wants to do all work alone regardless of coworkers.

-Every boss prefers a hardworking employee regardless of nationality.

-You make your boss’s life easier through hard work, which is every boss’s dream.

-In addition to hard work, also be smart and on top of your game.

-You are paid to work 12-hour shifts – your boss cannot use you for more than 12 hours no matter what.

-Hard work pays and is the key to job security.

Above is a true-life story, with a change in name and some other places for learning purposes.

All the best!!!”
