EMJMD Scholarship Programs with Flexible English Requirements

For international students, meeting stringent English language test scores can impede applying to prestigious master’s programs in Europe. Fortunately, some Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) scholarships are open to applicants who do not fully satisfy IELTS or TOEFL cut-offs. Here are some top universities with EMJMD programs featuring flexible English requirements.

University of Groningen in the Netherlands accepts EMJMD applicants to its Global Political Economy program conditionally even if their IELTS is under 6.0, as long as motivation and experience show English proficiency. Upon acceptance, students can take an intensive pre-sessional English course.

Utrecht University also in the Netherlands allows conditional entry to its European Studies program for candidates just below the 6.0 IELTS minimum. A proofreading pre-master’s English course helps strengthen language skills before starting the degree coursework and international exchanges.

At Lund University in Sweden, the EMJMD in Water, Environment, and Development considers candidates whose IELTS is 5.5 provided they fulfill supplementary requirements like a motivational interview in English. The program helps students expand their capabilities through practice in an immersive linguistic environment.

In Italy, the Polytechnic University of Bari will conditionally accept EMJMD applicants to its Renewable Energy program whose English level reaches only 5.5 IELTS on an experimental basis, but they must commit to private English lessons alongside their master’s studies.

The European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratization in Slovenia recognizes some flexibility in IELTS requirements dependent on an applicant’s academic strengths and commitment to rapid English learning through their intensive curriculum delivered mostly in English.

These prominent universities offer qualified candidates a shot at a top EMJMD even if certain language prerequisites are not fully met, as long as English-boosting measures are agreed to help students thrive in their advanced international academic experiences.

All the best!
