The PhD Project – Neurosymbolic AI and Its Applications

The group led by Prof. Luc De Raedt and Dr. Giuseppe Marra is seeking motivated PhD candidates to join their projects in neurosymbolic AI.

Neurosymbolic AI combines logic, probability, and neural networks to support both data-driven learning and knowledge-based reasoning. It is recognized as one of the next frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and is currently a major innovation driver in the AI landscape.

Your Role as a PhD Candidate

As a doctoral researcher, you will:

  • Explore new foundations of neurosymbolic AI
  • Develop practical applications in areas like robotics, NLP, sensors, and data science
  • Collaborate with internal and external researchers on interdisciplinary projects
  • Contribute to real-world AI innovation while advancing theoretical knowledge

Candidate Profile

To be considered, applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field
  • Strong background in logic, probability, and AI (experience with neurosymbolic AI is a plus)
  • Excellent programming skills
  • Strong command of English (written and spoken)
  • Effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities
