The University of Colorado Boulder’s Campus Dining Services is hiring a Bakery Sous Chef to join its award-winning culinary team. This full-time, hands-on leadership position offers an exciting opportunity to create high-quality bakery products, develop new recipes, and guide a talented team within a dynamic university setting.
As a Bakery Sous Chef, you’ll work closely with the Executive Culinary team to craft delicious, innovative bakery items that elevate the campus dining experience. You’ll also play a vital role in ensuring food safety, quality standards, and operational excellence in one of Colorado’s most inspiring university environments.

CU Boulder’s Division of Student Life consists of more than 30 departments dedicated to supporting student success and well-being. The Campus Dining & Hospitality team serves over 3 million meals annually, offering a variety of dining options, including retail, catering, and residential dining halls.

Key Responsibilities
As a Bakery Sous Chef, you will:
- Oversee Bakery Operations: Supervise daily production, ensure recipe accuracy, and maintain quality and safety standards.
- Lead and Train Staff: Manage and coach team members, oversee scheduling, and promote a collaborative kitchen environment.
- Contribute to Menu Development: Work with the Executive Culinary team to test and improve recipes and menus.
- Ensure Food Safety Compliance: Serve on the food safety response team and uphold sanitation and labeling protocols.
- Hands-on Production: Prepare baked goods, pastries, and breads using standardized recipes and innovative techniques.
- Quality Control: Monitor ingredient inventory, kitchen cleanliness, and service consistency.
Work Schedule
- May include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs.
- This position is designated as an essential service role, meaning you may be required to work during campus emergencies or closures.
Salary and Benefits
Annual Salary: $49,358.40

Qualifications
Required:
- 4 years of relevant culinary or bakery experience (education may substitute).
- State Food Safety Certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Proven pastry and bread production skills.
- Strong teamwork and attention to detail.
Preferred:
- 2+ years of experience in a high-volume bakery or institutional food service setting.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
