🧩 About the Role

As an Audio Visual Specialist, you’ll play a key role in supporting research, events, and presentations by ensuring seamless integration of audio-visual (AV) technology across conference rooms, classrooms, and auditoriums.

You’ll collaborate directly with researchers, administrative staff, and technical professionals to design, install, and maintain high-quality AV systems β€” helping to advance Beckman’s mission of innovation, communication, and scientific collaboration.


βš™οΈ Key Responsibilities

  • Event Support: Set up, operate, and troubleshoot AV systems for meetings, lectures, and conferences.
  • Technology Integration: Design and maintain AV systems, including projectors, microphones, displays, and conferencing equipment.
  • Customer Service: Provide first-level IT support and act as a liaison between staff, contractors, and vendors to ensure smooth communication and prompt problem resolution.
  • Training & Documentation: Conduct individual and group training sessions on AV technology and room systems.
  • Project Management: Lead or assist in AV infrastructure upgrades from concept to completion, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the ITS Help Desk to address user needs and continuously improve service delivery.

πŸ’ͺ Physical & Communication Requirements

This position involves regular bending, kneeling, and equipment handling to set up and maintain AV systems. It also requires frequent in-person and radio communication with colleagues and event participants.


πŸŽ“ Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • At least two years (24 months) of combined education or experience in IT or related disciplines.
  • Experience:
    • Proven troubleshooting skills.
    • Strong background in customer service or user support.

πŸ’Ό Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience in:
    • Audiovisual technology setup and maintenance
    • Technology training or user support
    • Conference room or auditorium AV systems
  • Experience in technology assessment, digital media applications, and collaborative online environments.

  • In-depth understanding of AV systems and operations.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate small teams or student workers.
  • Excellent problem-solving and client relations abilities.

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service position (Information Technology Technical Associate – Classification 5031).
The salary range is $45,000 – $60,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
