🧠 Available Research Areas

Successful candidates will be assigned to one of several centers within the Economic Studies Program, including:

1. Center for Economic Security and Opportunity (CESO)

Focuses on policies that promote economic mobility, job creation, and community development, emphasizing education, training, and family support systems.

2. Center on Health Policy (CHP)

Conducts research on healthcare access, insurance markets, and mental health care to inform national healthcare policy.

3. The Hamilton Project (THP)

Develops innovative strategies for broad-based economic growth, addressing issues like wage stagnation, higher education reform, and economic inequality.

4. Hutchins Center on Fiscal and Monetary Policy

Analyzes and explains U.S. fiscal and monetary policy decisions to improve public understanding and policy effectiveness.

5. Tax Policy Center (TPC)

Provides nonpartisan analyses of U.S. tax policy, budget decisions, and their impact on households and businesses.


💡 Position Details

  • Start Date: Between June 1 – August 1, 2026
  • Work Model: Hybrid (in-person + 2 remote days/week)
  • Union Status: Included under the Brookings United – IFPTE Local 70

Responsibilities include:

Data Analysis and Programming (50%)

  • Work with senior scholars on economic datasets
  • Conduct regression analysis and simulations using STATA or R
  • Prepare tables, graphs, and models

Research Support (40%)

  • Perform literature reviews and draft summaries
  • Collect and organize data from public and academic sources
  • Contribute to research papers and publications

Project and Communications Support (10%)

  • Assist in preparing policy briefs and web content
  • Support event coordination and communication strategies

🎓 Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Mathematics/Statistics, Public Policy, or a related Social Science (with a minor in Economics).

Skills:

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in STATA, R, or similar econometric software
  • Excellent writing, research, and communication abilities
  • Prior experience in economic research or policy analysis (preferred)
