💼 Job Opportunity: Research Assistant (Consultant)
UNU-WIDER is seeking an exceptional Research Assistant to contribute to its flagship initiative — Reducing Inequalities Across and Within Countries.
This position is ideal for individuals with strong analytical and quantitative skills who are eager to engage in cutting-edge economic research that shapes global development policy.
The role may be full-time or part-time, depending on the applicant’s preference and the Institute’s needs.
🔍 Key Responsibilities
Under the supervision of a Research Fellow, the Research Assistant will:
- Support UNU-WIDER researchers and associates in data-driven projects and policy initiatives.
- Collect, clean, and prepare datasets, assisting in econometric modeling and analysis using tools like R and Stata.
- Draft literature reviews, technical briefs, and data notes.
- Contribute to UNU-WIDER’s Working Paper Series and academic publications.
- Organize and assist in international conferences, workshops, and seminars.
- Deliver timely, high-quality research outputs aligned with UNU’s global standards.
🧠 Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Economics or a related field (PhD students preferred).
- Demonstrated expertise in data analysis, econometrics, and research design.
- Advanced proficiency in R (or Stata); intermediate skills in the other.
- Experience in Python is an asset.
- Solid understanding of economic development and public finance.
- Excellent communication and writing skills in English.
- Strong organizational ability and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.

💶 Remuneration & Contract Details
- Monthly Pay: €3,430 (gross, full-time rate).
- Workload: 100% (20 days/month), 75% (15 days/month), or 50% (10 days/month).
- Contract Type: Consultant (maximum of 24 months of service within 36 months).
- Leave: No entitlement to paid leave or sick leave.
- Start Date: As soon as possible.
- Work Location: Can be performed remotely with an approved work plan.
