The institute is currently inviting applications for a Research Fellow – IISS Middle East, a prestigious position ideal for an accomplished researcher or analyst passionate about Middle East policy, energy, and security.
🎯 Role Overview
The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of researchers at IISS–Middle East, reporting directly to the Executive Director, IISS–Middle East, and the Senior Fellow for Middle East Policy.
This full-time position involves conducting original, high-quality, and independent research across key regional issues while contributing to IISS’s global reputation for thought leadership.
🧭 Key Responsibilities
As a Research Fellow, you will:
- Conduct cutting-edge research on one or more of the following areas:
- Energy policy and security in the Middle East
 - Technology and geopolitics in regional and global contexts
 - Infrastructure and connectivity across the Middle East and its neighbouring regions
 
 - Publish research and analytical pieces across IISS platforms.
 - Support fundraising initiatives, advisory projects, and policy events.
 - Mentor and collaborate with junior researchers and other IISS colleagues globally.
 
🎓 Candidate Requirements
The ideal applicant should demonstrate a blend of academic excellence, policy expertise, and regional experience. Candidates must:
- Be a high-calibre analyst with a background in academia, government, journalism, or industry.
 - Possess deep knowledge of Middle Eastern political, energy, and security dynamics.
 - Have a strong publishing track record.
 - Hold a postgraduate degree in Middle East studies, international relations, or a related field.
 - Show proven research experience and the ability to communicate effectively in English.
 - Be proficient in at least one Middle Eastern language.
 - Have lived or conducted research in the Middle East (preferred).
