About the Role
King’s College London, one of the world’s leading research institutions, invites applications for a Research Assistant to join the groundbreaking project Collective Action for Race Equity in Health and Social Care (CARE-HSC).
This interdisciplinary programme, funded in collaboration with Black Thrive Global and international partners in the United States and Sweden, seeks to address systemic racism and inequities in healthcare and social care systems.
The successful applicant will work under Workstream 2: Informal Carers, co-led by Dr. Juliana Onwumere and Cllr Dr. Jacqui Dyer, to understand and improve experiences of racially minoritised informal carers.
Key Responsibilities
As a Research Assistant, you will:
- Collaborate on the co-development of a PhD project within the CARE-HSC framework.
- Conduct systematic literature reviews, policy analyses, and data collection through interviews, discourse analysis, and participatory workshops.
- Support the creation of racially informed AI tools to enhance healthcare equality across four major UK cities — London, Birmingham, Manchester, and the Black Country.
- Engage directly with carer-focused organizations to ensure the research reflects lived experiences and fosters equitable partnerships.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of the Race Equity in Care Survey, including ethics submissions and data quality checks.
- Perform quantitative analyses using tools such as Stata, R, MPLUS, or Python.
- Assist in drafting academic publications, policy reports, and disseminating findings at conferences and stakeholder events.

Candidate Requirements
Essential Criteria:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Mental Health Studies, Public Health, Epidemiology, Occupational Health, or Research Methods.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills, including experience with interviews, focus groups, and statistical software.
- Demonstrated knowledge of racial inequalities in health and social care, and a strong interest in pursuing a PhD focused on racism in healthcare.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, maintain data confidentiality, and communicate findings to diverse audiences.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills for both academic and non-academic audiences.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience engaging with community organizations, public sector partners, or advocacy groups.
- Ability to produce creative, accessible outputs (e.g., blogs, workshops, community events).
