The University of Bath invites applications for an exciting position as a Research Assistant in Neurotechnology, working on next-generation VR/AR and neurogaming applications within the Institute for the Augmented Human.

Led by Professor Damien Coyle, the Neurotechnology Research Team is pioneering new AI-driven brain–computer interface (BCI) technologies designed to transform the way humans interact with machines. This groundbreaking research explores gamified VR/AR paradigms, immersive neurogaming, and BCI-driven learning, rehabilitation, and communication tools.

🧠 Key Responsibilities

As a Research Assistant, you will:

  • Design and develop immersive neurogaming applications and VR/AR prototypes for brain–computer interfaces.
  • Collaborate closely with AI experts, neuroscientists, psychologists, and engineers across the UK.
  • Support EEG-based trials with both able-bodied participants and patients with physical or cognitive impairments.
  • Analyze research data and contribute to publications in top-tier scientific journals.

You’ll be a motivated, innovative researcher with a strong foundation in VR/AR development, serious games, or neurogaming research.

Essential qualifications and skills:

  • A first degree in a relevant discipline (Master’s or equivalent experience preferred).
  • Experience using Unity3D, Visual Studio, or other immersive development tools.
  • Solid understanding of real-time performance optimization in VR/AR or game environments.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities to manage research deliverables and deadlines.

Desirable experience:

  • Software engineering or computing background with a proven development portfolio.
  • Prior involvement in EEG, BCI, or AI-integrated VR/AR systems.
