Application Deadline: November 1, 2025
Institution: Louisiana State University – Pennington Biomedical Research Center
Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA
Position Type: Full-time Postdoctoral Fellowship
Field: Immunology, Molecular Biology, Respiratory Medicine
🧬 Fellowship Overview
The Pennington Biomedical Research Center at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the Cormier Laboratory, specializing in Immunology and Respiratory Disease.
This fellowship provides a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge translational research focused on how early-life exposures—such as allergens, pollutants, and respiratory viruses—affect immune system development and lead to adult-onset or chronic respiratory diseases.
Research in the Cormier Lab bridges basic science and clinical application, offering fellows hands-on experience in studies that have direct human health relevance, particularly in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), shock, and asthma pathogenesis.
🌿 Research Focus
The fellowship centers on exploring:
- The molecular and cellular mechanisms linking environmental exposures to respiratory disease progression.
- The role of neutrophils in the development of humoral immune responses.
- Identification of molecular targets using clinical samples from critically ill children to inform in vitro and in vivo research models.
This position provides a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment that encourages innovation and collaboration with other biomedical scientists and clinicians.
🔧 Candidate Requirements
Essential Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated competence in standard immunological and molecular biology techniques
- Experience with human cell culture and related analytical methods
- Proven ability to interpret data, troubleshoot experiments, and work independently
- Strong communication skills, creativity, and motivation for independent investigation
Preferred Experience:
- Translational research or experience working with human clinical samples
- Familiarity with respiratory or inflammatory disease models
💼 What You’ll Gain
This position offers:
- The opportunity to publish in high-impact journals
- Access to state-of-the-art research facilities at LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center
- Collaborative mentorship in an innovative environment at the forefront of immunology and respiratory research
- A platform for launching an independent academic or biomedical research career
