About the Role

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work within CMU’s Automated Science Laboratory at Bakery Square, conducting high-impact experiments in cell biology, biotechnology, and biochemistry. This research aims to develop new methods and insights that advance biomedical technology and improve patient outcomes.

This position requires strong technical expertise, scientific curiosity, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment.


Core Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in cell biology, biochemistry, and biotechnology.
  • Maintain and operate laboratory equipment and ensure experimental accuracy.
  • Document, analyze, and report research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Present progress to project advisors, collaborators, and funding sponsors.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with laboratory safety and procedural standards.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned by the research supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in:
    • Cell culture, transfection, and transformation
    • Protein purification and characterization
    • Optical and fluorescence microscopy
    • Physical biochemistry techniques
  • Strong publication record and demonstrated technical skills.
  • Excellent communication abilities—both written and verbal.
  • Experience working in collaborative and interdisciplinary environments.
  • Engineering background or formal training preferred.
