The Museum Institute at the University of Colorado Boulder is seeking an exceptional Director of Marketing and Communications to lead innovative outreach, media strategy, and brand development. As a member of CU Boulder’s world-class academic community, you’ll have the opportunity to shape how the Museum communicates its mission locally, nationally, and globally. The successful candidate will design and implement high-impact marketing campaigns that highlight the Museum’s exhibitions, public programs, and research initiatives.
About the Museum Institute
The Museum Institute at CU Boulder is a hub for discovery, culture, and learning. It fosters exploration of the natural world and human heritage through research, teaching, and community outreach. The Institute supports graduate programs in Museum and Field Studies, manages extensive research collections, and delivers public exhibits and educational programming that connect academia with the wider community.
Key Responsibilities
As the Director of Marketing and Communications, you will:
- Design and execute creative marketing strategies across digital and traditional platforms.
- Develop multimedia campaigns to promote the Museum as a physical and virtual destination.
- Create engaging content including videos, graphics, and publications in alignment with CU branding.
- Oversee the Museum’s social media presence, website, newsletters, and marketing materials.
- Manage event promotion, media relations, and storytelling initiatives.
- Collaborate with leadership and advancement teams to support fundraising efforts.
- Evaluate campaign performance using analytics and reporting tools.
What You Should Know
- This position is in-person, full-time in Boulder, Colorado.
- Some evening and weekend work will be required to support special events.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual Salary: $82,000–$85,000

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, design, journalism, public relations, museum studies, or related field
- Minimum five years of professional experience in communications, marketing, or public relations
- Strong writing, editing, and visual communication skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, social media management, and web content systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in marketing, communications, or design
- Experience in museum or cultural sector marketing
- Expertise with Drupal, HTML, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and video editing tools (Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro)
- Advanced skills in graphic and multimedia design
