About the Role

The Assistant Vice Provost for Undergraduate Academic Experience will oversee initiatives designed to enrich the academic life of first- and second-year students. Reporting directly to the Dean and Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, the AVPUAE will manage and develop key programs, including:

  • Program in Exploratory Studies (PES) – guiding over 3,000 undergraduate students in academic exploration and success.
  • Residential Learning Communities (RLCs) – expanding access and engagement for first-year students across the campus.
  • First-Year Research Seminars and Retention Campaigns – improving student engagement, early alerts, and success strategies.

This position combines academic leadership, program management, and data-informed decision-making to elevate the overall undergraduate experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and supervision for the Program in Exploratory Studies (PES), including curriculum development, advising, and student success initiatives.
  • Lead the development and assessment of Residential Learning Communities (RLCs) to increase student engagement and academic integration.
  • Oversee the implementation of first-year seminars, research experiences, and alignment with CU Boulder’s Common Curriculum.
  • Drive campus-wide student success strategies, using data analytics and predictive insights to improve academic persistence.
  • Collaborate with academic deans, Student Life, Enrollment Management, and Data Analytics teams to streamline retention efforts.
  • Supervise and mentor professional staff and manage fiscal operations for OUE programs.

This role offers a hybrid work model, requiring at least three days per week on campus in Boulder, CO.

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration or a related field.
  • At least 6 years of progressive experience in higher education administration, including staff supervision, unit leadership, and fiscal management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven record in organizational transformation and multi-unit leadership.
  • Experience in curriculum development, student success, and academic policy implementation.
  • Strong collaboration skills and a creative, data-driven leadership style.
